Designing Better Futures through Policy Innovation, Industry Leadership & Community Collaborations

2025 was a year of complexity and change. Tobias partnered with leaders across government, health, finance, infrastructure, agriculture, education and digital innovation to design more trusted, human-centred and future-ready systems.

The moment we’re in

2025 demanded reimagining, rethinking and refining our propositions. To meet that challenge, we worked closely with our partners and clients, ensuring we stayed relevant, resilient and connected to the people they serve. We observed a convergence of forces reshaping how organisations design, govern and deliver services:

  • Trust under scrutiny: Consent and privacy moved to the forefront, with rising scrutiny on data use and higher ethical and regulatory expectations.
  • Technology risk and system fragility: Cyber incidents and AI-enabled transformation sharpened the focus on safety, resilience and responsible innovation.
  • Capability gaps widening: As transformation accelerated, many teams discovered their people, processes and cultures weren’t equipped for the pace and complexity of change.
  • Economic headwinds building: Leaders were asked to deliver more with less, while safeguarding trust and maximising every investment.

This environment demanded clarity, discipline and partnership; a renewed commitment to designing strategic, human-centred systems that help organisations navigate uncertainty with confidence.

What we value most

Reflecting on the year, our greatest appreciation is for our team, partnerships and design industry that made 2025 meaningful by placing their trust in us. New partnerships evolved into longer-term strategies with shared goals, integrating our team with partner teams. Across the design industry and independent agencies, a series of events, including those facilitated by Studio Space, The Outlook, and the Good Design Awards, brought people together to connect, collaborate, and support one another.

While we measure ourselves by our own standards, receiving four Good Design Awards for policy innovation, was a meaningful acknowledgment of the effort, skill, and care our team invests in every project.

Project highlights

Policy innovation & capability uplift with the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing

Over five years, five digital health projects reshaped government decision-making, proving the transformative power of human-centred design. In partnership, DoHDA and Tobias cultivated internal design capability, building a shared language, skillset, toolset, and a mindset that’s now in practice and empowers policymakers across the branch to drive data-driven, consumer-informed policies.

Building on this, departmental policy design and development was reimagined through the Designing Better Policy initiative, creating an adaptive, data-driven, human-centred framework to meet evolving health sector needs at scale. A future-state methodology and tools were piloted on a ‘live’ policy initiative, Sharing by Default. This bill was successfully passed in February 2025.

Setting up a new approach with Australian Payments Plus

Tobias partnered with Australian Payments Plus to develop approaches that align with emerging industry and stakeholder expectations. The collaboration resulted in more transparent, evidence-based ways of delivering initiatives that create value for the organisation, its partners, and the broader community.

Digital experience & value communication for a leading sustainable solutions provider

Tobias supported the development of a new digital presence for a leading sustainable solutions provider, strengthening value communication, optimising user pathways, and laying the digital foundations for an ecosystem focused on sustainable products.

Community co-design with a local council

Tobias facilitated inclusive co-design workshops for a local council, enabling meaningful engagement with communities and designing more accessible pathways for residents to discover and access services, supporting a more connected and equitable community experience.

Reimagining customer interactions with empathy & AI for a listed insurer

Tobias partnered with a listed insurer to reimagine the customer experience with empathy, simplicity and responsible AI. Through research, co-design and prototyping, we developed a future-state vision, roadmap and tangible concepts for smoother, more intuitive customer experiences and strengthened trust.

Systemising the student feedback loop with UTS

Tobias worked with UTS to strengthen their student experience measurement framework by identifying effective feedback collection, analysis, interpretation, and implementation methods that ensure student voices drive meaningful change. The project delivered principles and guidance that improve transparency, engagement, and the use of insights, supporting more effective, actionable outcomes from student feedback.

Long-Term Partnerships & Transformation with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry: Taking Farmers to Market

Tobias continued our multi-year partnership, supporting the delivery of digital compliance tools that streamline export processes and significantly reduce administrative burden for producers and exporters.

Design Research Capability with Services Australia

Tobias provided expertise to augment teams, deepening customer insight and translating those insights into better, more human-centred services for Australians.

Looking ahead

This year forced us to rethink, reimagine and sharpen our proposition. We’ll continue designing strategic, human-centred systems that create shared value for organisations, communities and people. Our focus for the year ahead:

  • Team augmentation: Equipping organisations with trusted, high-quality design and delivery capacity, delivering exactly what they need when they need it.
  • AI-enabled futures, powered by strategic design: Helping organisations and communities navigate complex change through story-led strategy and tech-augmented co-design.
  • Policy innovation labs: Empowering government teams to design responsive, human-centred policies that create measurable and lasting impact for government, industry, and the community
  • Capability uplift: Unlocking innovation by strengthening organisational capability to design for change and deliver impact at pace and scale.

These are the areas where we’ll continue to grow, partner and create shared value. The future is still human, and we’ll design it with empathy and intelligence. In 2026, we’ll tackle bigger challenges, deepen partnerships and create even greater impact.
