Ash’s story began in Australia, with early childhood spent in the UK before returning to Australia at five.

Growing up, his father, a skilled “jack-of-all-trades,” worked in fields ranging from boilermaking to industrial real estate, offering Ash a diverse perspective. Ash’s professional journey started as a commercial pilot, but it was his discovery of Human Factors in aviation that sparked his curiosity. This led him to question why human-centred design wasn’t applied more widely, motivating him to focus on improving the design of systems and experiences for people.

As an Australian Expert Representative to the ISO, Ash helped define the International Standards for Human Centred Design and Human Computer Interaction – the same guidelines that he uses today when delivering government projects. At Tobias, Ash is our in-house behaviour change expert bringing a quarter of a century of design and innovation experience to a wide range of projects. He collaborates with leading organisations and government bodies to deliver innovative products, services, and strategies.

When he’s not delivering “behavioural bites” at Tobias’ daily team stand-ups, leading projects and mentoring emerging designers, he enjoys early morning exercise and boat trips.
